Project Description

Sardi has designed several homes for her family, from New Orleans, Louisiana to Glasgow, Scotland. Each home has provided an opportunity to experiment with the integration of lighting, color, craft and local building traditions. In New Orleans, Sardi rebuilt an historic structure on Audubon Park based on the classic Creole Townhouse in the Garden District, using a modern interior approach to the asymmetrical floor plan. For the Sardi home in Glasgow, Scotland, she restored a Glasgow style Manor House which had been “retrofitted” during the post-war years with a majority of the historic features removed. Sardi restored the original Charles Rennie Mackintosh windows, the coiffured ceilings (which had been covered with hung ceiling tiles), and the intricate “Industrial Era” detailing that inspired the re-design. Sardi acted as both architect and contractor, completing the extensive renovations and restoration effort over a year-long period.
